Operations
On average, emergent fire response includes 4 vehicle fires, 58 wildland
fires, and 8 structural fires along with approximately 5-10
requests to monitor prescribed burns throughout the year.
We also respond to approximately 144 emergency medical calls
throughout the year taking patients to one of 3 hospitals,
the closest of which is about 30 miles away. We are fortunate
to have two level II trauma centers located approximately
35 miles away: Parkview
Medical Center Emergency Department and St.
Mary Corwin Medical Center. We are also fortunate to have
backup advanced life support (ALS) and transport services
as needed from local private ambulance services: TransCare
Ambulance serving throughout southeastern Colorado (as far
south as Lamar, CO) and AMR out of Pueblo, CO.
We have weekly meetings every Tuesday night to discuss business
matters, call outcomes, firefighting strategies and participate in
drills and EMS CE training. Our volunteers also check trucks on a
weekly basis to make sure they work properly and for identifying repair
needs and other issues.

Fowler Rural Fire Protection District
The Fowler Volunteer Fire Department is governed by a rural
board concerned with the fire protection district consisting mainly of retired FVFD
volunteers and active community members. The board
meets the second Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. to discuss funding, operations and other
issues related to assisting us with our day to day operations.
They take care of the budgetary details so we can improve
the services provided to the community with better training,
education and vehicle and equipment maintenance.
